2. Build Assembly|02 Body – Upper Body

02-1 Assemble right shoulder base

Required Parts:
SM03 Servo Motor (ID03) x1 F7 Shoulder joints (base) x1 H1 Servo motor wheels (main) x1 H2 Servo motor wheels (auxiliary) x1

Assemble right shoulder base

  1. Shoulder joint assembly
    Tip 【SM03 Servo Motor (ID03)】 into 【F7 Shoulder joints (base)】 with splined shaft facing as shown.
    ⚠️ Before installation, return servo motor shaft to zero position!
    👉 How to return servo motor axle to zero position?
  2. Slide splined 【H1 Servo motor wheel (main)】onto shaft, and insert its lock tabs into matching slots so it sits flat on F7 part. Secure with machine 【Screw No. 4 (M2_L6 MW20060)】.  If shaft is not at zero, you will not be able to insert it into wheel.
  3.  Turn part over and place 【H2 Servo Motor Wheel (auxiliary)】 over other end of servo shaft. Secure with 【Screw No. 5 (M2_L6 TW20060-2)】. Note that all servo motors are installed in this fashion using a machine screw on splined end and a self-tapping screw on the other.
  4. Rotate【F7 Shoulder joints (base)】 90 degrees clockwise making sure it moves freely and there is no play in the joint.
  5. Right shoulder base assembly complete!

02-2 Assemble left shoulder base

Required Parts:
SM07 Servo Motor (ID07) x1 F7 Shoulder joints (base) x1 H1 Servo motor wheels (main) x1 H2 Servo motor wheels (auxiliary) x1

Assemble left shoulder base

  1. Shoulder joint assembly (same procedure as right side above)
    Tip 【SM07 Servo Motor (ID07)】into 【F7 Shoulder joints (base)】with splined shaft facing as shown.
    ⚠️ Before installation, return servo motor axle to zero position!

  2. Slide splined【H1 Servo motor wheel (main)】onto shaft, and insert its lock tabs into matching slots so it sits flat on F7 part. Secure with machine 【Screw No. 4 (M2_L6 MW20060)】. If shaft is not at zero, you will not be able to insert it into wheel.
  3. Turn part over and place 【H2 Servo Motor Wheel (auxiliary)】 over other end of the servo shaft. Secure with 【Screw No. 5 (M2_L6 TW20060-2)】.
  4. Rotate 【F7 Shoulder joints (base)】 90 degrees anticlockwise making sure it moves freely and there is no play in joint.
  5. Left shoulder base assembly complete!

02-3 Install shoulder base assemblies

Required Parts:

Right shoulder base x1 Left shoulder base x1 F1 Upper skeleton x1 Screw No. 9 (M2_L6 MM20060) x8

Install shoulder base assemblies

  1. Attach servo motor end of assembly to Upper Skeleton
    Insert 【Servo Motor (ID03)】of 【Right shoulder base assembly】 into opening on 【F1 Upper skeleton】 as shown. Note green arrow showing front of robot. Right side is right when facing forward. You may want to mark robot skeleton with a marker to indicate sides for future reference.
  2. Secure 【Servo Motor (ID03)】 with 4 pieces 【Screw No. 9 (M2_L6 MM20060)】.
    ⚠ Notice: Check again to ensure that the shoulder assembly is on the correct side.
  3. Insert 【Servo Motor (ID07)】of 【Left Shoulder Base part (left)】 into opening on the left side of【F1 Upper skeleton】as shown.
  4. Secure the【Servo Motor (ID07)】with 4 pieces 【Screw No. 9 (M2_L6 MM20060)】.
  5. Installation finished!
    ⚠️ Notice! Check ID numbers on left and right motors again to ensure installation on correct sides.

02-4 Place upper body on chassis

Required Parts:
Upper body part x1 Chassis part x1

Route the chassis connection cables

  1. Thread 【3-in-1 connection cable (04)(05)(06)】 from【SM12 Servo Motor (ID12)】 through opening in body skeleton as shown.
  2. Run【Connection Cable 03 BODY】 to back through rear cable hole as shown.
  3. Run 【Connection Cable 05 BODY】to head through upper cable hole as shown.
  4. Route【Connection Cable 04 BODY】 to robot’s left hand side; do not insert in retainer slot yet.
  5. Route【Connection Cable 06 BODY】 to robot’s right hand side; do not insert in retainer slot yet.
    ⚠️ Note! Check again to make sure you have correctly identified front of robot and that cables are routed to proper sides.

02-5 Fasten upper body to chassis

Required Parts:
Screw No. 11 (M3_L8 MM30080-2) x4

Fasten upper body to chassis

  1. Fasten【Upper body assembly】to【Chassis】 with 4 pieces【Screw No. 11 (M3_L8 MM30080-2)】.

02-6 Connect shoulder servo motors

Connect shoulder servo motors

  1. Connect left shoulder servo motor
    Plug【Connection Cable 04 BODY】into 3 Pin socket on 【SM07 Servo Motor (ID07)】.
  2. Run connection cable as shown and push into cable retainer slot.
  3. Connect right shoulder servo motor
    Plug【06 BODY Cable】 into 3 Pin socket on 【SM03 Servo Motor (ID03)】.
  4. Run connection cable as shown and push into cable retainer slot.
    ⚠️ Note: Use tweezers to seat cable plugs in hard-to-reach locations.
    ⚠️ Note: Make sure connection cables are firmly plugged in.

Body part - upper body FINISHED!
